It was definitely one of those happy accidents and I’m glad that I did.

It took a bit of digging to find out the singer is Petra Marklund, she’s from Sweden and is one of the biggest musical exports at the moment with her second full length album “Orbit”.

The album includes the singles “Sattelites”, “Looking for love”, “Flowers on the grave”, and the song that totally caught my attention “Cry for You”.

September is getting ready for the world to see them in action and deals have been made with over 50 countries including the USA, France, Germany, Russia, Africa and Australia… I wonder if Canada is included in the list?? LOL.

If you’re interested in getting her latest album, “In Orbit” it’s in the stores now and you can pick it up and enjoy it! It was really interesting to watch Petra sing live - saw a great live video on YouTube. Many of the commenters and I totally have to agree is this woman can sing live! You know how it often goes, you go to see a performer live and they totally suck because they aren’t tweaked by the studio. They are live and you get to hear them… the good and the bad. But Petra isn’t one to let us down that is for sure. She’s got talent and it would be great to see her get out and do her global thing.

Artist: Scooter

Biography: 2007 brings us thirteen years of SCOOTER success and we’re still counting. The band has consisted of three guys from the far north, the founding members included H.P. Baxxter, Rick J. Jordan and Jens Thele, now joined by Michael Simon, and have turned into a worldwide phenomenon!

They hail from Germany and have shaped the musical landscape at home and abroad for over a decade, without losing any of their energy or fresh beats. With the way Scooter is out there with their music - I think either you love them or hate them… there is no in-between. But whatever you decide on these guys, SCOOTER has sold over 12 million records, have 60 gold and platinum awards and a whack of trophies from award shows.

Back in 1994 the worldwide party nation was celebrating rave culture in the underground as new techno clubs sprung up everywhere, whilst the charts were dominated by mindnumbing Euro dance and mainstream singles. At that time, “Hyper Hyper“ could not be considered a commercial track by any stretch of the imagination, and yet Scooter took the charts by storm, launching techno into the overground overnight. Eight years of graft with “Celebrate The Nun” and other projects and remixes were finally about to pay off. Songs like “Move Your Ass”, “Friends”, “Endless Summer” and “Back In The UK” proved beyond all doubt that Scooter were more than just another “one hit wonder“ of the early 90s. “How Much Is The Fish?”, “Maria (I Like It Loud)”, “Nessaja”, One (Always Hardcore)” and “Hello! (Good To Be Back)“, to name just a few, continued the hit tradition of this remarkable formation.

Many an interview begins with sheer wonder at the longevity of the band’s career, coupled with the question: “what is the secret of the group’s success?“ “Find out what you are unable to do and then go and do it!” is one of H.P.’s favourite quotes, which has become something of a mission statement for the combo. “You can’t afford to lose your curiosity or a certain healthy naivety, otherwise you might as well pack it in on the spot. If the element of fun is gone, it doesn’t make much sense. And you need to stay credible.

We do everything by ourselves in the studio and our fans respect that.“ Baxxter’s fondness for unconventional methods can drive his colleagues to distraction, however. “He comes up with the maddest ideas and then we have to see how we can build a song together“ is how Rick J. Jordan describes their way of working, a twinkle in his eye. “But that’s why I love him, it’s a real inspiration and you can be sure there’s something worthwhile in there, once you get used to his style.”

His lyrics may, at first glance, focus on whipping up the crowd into a frenzy, enacting battles with imaginary M.C.s (and winning), embracing the “Scooter phenomenon“, but H.P. has come to delight in sprinkling literary references and hidden messages among the more apparently simplistic shouts (“Respect to the man in the icecream van“, by way of example, is a tribute to The KLF). Baxxter is Scooter’s enfant terrible, and has been the focal point of the band, in terms of sound as well as vision, over the past 13 years.

Keyboard player and sound engineer Rick J. Jordan is, in contrast, the calming influence of the team. Explaining how they work in the studio, Jordan notes “I try to sort the creative chaos and add in my own ideas into the production process“. Responsible for sound design and audio engineering, he is also the team’s “musician“ with over 30 years of experience with piano and keyboards and a knowledge of classical music theory to back it up. He has even created a virtual symphony orchestra and has enthusiastically paved the way for Scooter’s excursions into musical genres as diverse as rock, classical and Celtic folklore.

The third founder member of the band, Jens Thele, is more in the background, taking care of the group’s business affairs. As the mastermind and managing director of KONTOR Records, he introduces Scooter to the international market and brings his visionary expertise in marketing and concepts on board.

It did not take the newest member, Michael Simon, long to spot this: “When Jens joins us in the studio towards the end of the production phase, his input is absolutely invaluable, both in terms of his A&R talent and his years of Djing. He can add that extra special something, an unexpected idea or suggestion how to improve a track. You really notice that music is an important part of his life.

Michael has come in to replace Jay Frog, who left the band halfway through 2006. One of Hamburg’s most renowned house DJs, Michael is no stranger to the group, nor to their faithful followers. Back in 1997 he went on tour as support act for Scooter with his “Shahin & Simon” project, and he has remixed Scooter tracks, as well as releasing productions on Kontor Records.

With a diverse musical background, covering house, techno and hardtrance on the one hand, plus HipHop and R´n´B on the other, it did not take long for him to find his way into the Scooter project, proving to be a born programmer of beats. His boundless enthusiasm for what’s going down in the clubs means he can always bring the newest sounds into the studio.

Living HardCore

Scooter’s working ethic is marked by clear synergy and impressive results. Beyond this, what also makes Scooter what it is, is their live performance. The live show is probably the area of operations in which they truly demolish any preconceptions or clichés about dance music.

The stage show is a potent cocktail of punk, rock´n´roll and quite deliberate delusions of grandeur. “We believe in the bigger picture, spectacular stage sets and theatrical effects. I think we would really miss the fireworks and lightning flashes if we didn’t use them“ admits Jordan.

“Even our warm-up backstage has become something of an institution in its own right, I wouldn’t swap it for anything..” A souped up 3000 watt “ghettoblaster”, a full-on sound system backstage, various trance- and house mixes, not forgetting one or two long drinks, all go to make the Scooter pre-show ritual what it is.

In the hour before the curtain goes up, Scooter focus all their energy on this point in the day. “On the afternoon before a show, i often get engulfed by a sense of lethargy, as if I could never get up on stage ever again. Ten minutes before the show starts, I’ll be running round in circles, that’s how nervous I get. I mean, you never really know – is it going to work or not? Then, when it begins, you just give it your absolute all. I guess that’s my own personal rhythm.“

A true “night owl“, if Baxxter is asked to do an interview before midday, then that counts as the middle of the night for him. “I love the mix of studio work and playing live, it’s certainly never dull. In fact, it’s always exciting.“ 33 singles, 15 albums and no end in sight.

Just how do Scooter manage to keep coming up with new ideas, re-inventing themselves after so many years of single and album releases? It’s a question which pops up time and time again.

The answer? Simple. Hard work! “The closing phase of an album production can often lead to us spending over 12 hours a day in the studio. A song needs time to develop, ideas need time to mature“ Michael points out. He has quickly come to learn that other engagements such as festivals or promotional dates can interrupt the creative flow.

“If you have been out of the studio for a while, on tour, doing interviews, or even just on holiday, you can easily get the feeling that you have to start from scratch, as if you’ve forgotten everything you’ve learned”, H.P. Baxxter observes. These are the common hurdles in the production process. “Of course, at the same time, it’s a chance to develop artistically, to try out new things.“

The band’s penchant for quoting other musical sources is, on occasion, a bone of contention. Whereas sampling is an accepted phenomenon in Hip-Hop, the use of song fragments or samples in techno and dance music is still frowned upon by some. Not that this has unduly concerned Scooter.

They have stuck to their guns and have never been afraid to dip into other styles or musical currents to enhance their own creations. “Strictly speaking, classical luminaries such as Karajan, Callas and Pavarotti all base their art on interpretations of existing works, without having surrendered anything of their brilliance or individuality“ notes Rick, with a hint of irony. “Sometimes that’s what makes our songs so special – the confrontation of new and old.”

The new album “THE ULTIMATE AURAL ORGASM“ is scheduled for release on February 9th.

Thanks to a new studio and fresh reserves of energy, the trio have picked up where “Mind The Gap“ and “The Stadium Techno Experience“ left off. The result is another milestone in the band’s history, whilst the album title is sure to rub up one or two people the wrong way.

Not entirely accidently, it would seem. “We love a good English pun“ H.P. explains, “and the phonetic similarity between “aural” and “oral” just grabbed us. As we were running out of superlatives to describe our sound, we figured that this could be a perfect fit.“ The album title says it all.

With playful effortlessness, songs such as “Lass uns Tanzen”, “The United Vibe” or “Scarborough Affair” blend H.P. Baxxter’s inimitable lyrics with crunchy electro beats, spacious trance sequences and unusual chorus hooks. The musical concept of the album allows for metal riffs and ancient drums on “Does the Fish Have Chips?” and “Imaginary Battle”, all the way to Wagner references on “East Sands Anthem”.

Nicely rounded off with “The Shit that Killed Elvis” – a collaboration with Jimmy Pop, figurehead of the American fun-rock-band “The Bloodhound Gang”, who co-wrote the song. Thirteen years on, and SCOOTER are as loud as ever. A little wiser, perhaps, but ready to rock for their fans everywhere!

You just can’t stop jumping to the fresh beats that SCOOTER brings us!

If you are a fan of dance music, you have probably heard the term “rave.” However, you may not be aware of exactly what it means. Basically, raves are all-night dance events that can last 1 or 2 days. DJs play loud rave or electronic dance music to huge crowds of people who dance well into the morning. Contrary to popular belief, they are considered legal gatherings.

The first raves started in the UK and the US in the early 1980s thanks to the popularity of acid house and techno music. They were often held in abandoned warehouses or fields, but are now usually held in legal venues that will accommodate a large crowd, as many as 20,000 individuals. Raves are currently held all over the world and they tend to attract a younger crowd. The general age range of participants is 15 to 25.

Alcohol is not served at most raves. However, widespread drug use is very common. Ecstasy or MDMA is the popular drug of choice and has become almost synonymous with raves. Drugs are often widely available throughout the event. Ketamine, GHB or Liquid X, Rohypnol, LSD and methamphetamine are also common drugs. These designer drugs are often referred to as “club drugs” because they are usually taken at dance clubs or raves.

Unlike the tight clothing often seen in regular night clubs, “ravers” often prefer loose, baggy clothing. They often dress in layers so they can remove clothing when they start to get hot. Accessories such as baseballs caps, knapsacks, infant soothers and toys and candy or bright plastic necklaces are also very common. Some rave participants, especially women, will dress up in wild costumes. Dancers will often use glowsticks to perform mesmerizing light shows in the dark venues. The soothing effects of watching the glowsticks is reported to calm the effects of dancers who have taken Ecstasy.

Raves have led to an entire subculture that has resulted in new terms such as “glowsticking”, or “glowstringing”, “raving” and “candyraver.” Most ravers believe in non-violence and they promote the concept of acceptance, positivity and openness. You may hear some ravers use the term “PLUR” which stands for Peace, Love, Unity & Respect.

Clubs all over the world attract fans wanting to hear great music all night, enjoy a few drinks and strut their stuff on the dance floor. Clubs are often used as a venue to meet members of the opposite sex so it’s important to look your best while you’re showing off your latest dance moves!

First of all, if you’re going to spend an entire night dancing, you need to wear comfortable shoes. This doesn’t mean you have to run out and purchase an unattractive pair of orthopedic loafers. However, those sexy 5 inch stilettos that looked so amazing in the store window may not seem so appealing after a few hours of wear. If you opt for high heels, make sure you can easily walk and dance in them and they fit properly. You don’t want to have to spend the majority of your evening nursing a drink in the corner because of blisters. Instead of spiked heels, purchase a pair of platform shoes or wedges that will be easier on your poor feet.

You also need to make sure your clothing is comfortable when you head off to the latest dance club. Remember that Seinfeld episode where Ross can’t zip his leather pants back up? Don’t let this happen to you! You might want to get noticed in your tight-fitting pants or low-cut top, just make sure you actually fit into them. If your clothing is so tight that you find it difficult to walk or sit, just imagine how you’re going to find dancing. You don’t want to have to spend hours “sucking in your gut” because your shirt or pants are a size too small. Look for clothing that accentuates your best features, but still allows you to move freely and breathe comfortably!

Dance clubs can be very hot venues literally and figuratively. Fill a room with lots of people dancing and a myriad of bright lights and you can often feel like you’re in a sauna. Even if you find the weather a little chilly on your way to the club, you have to remember that things are really going to heat up once you’re inside. Just make sure you don’t overheat literally. Wear clothing made from a breathable fabric and opt for short sleeves whenever possible. This way you can still look hot on the dance floor while remaining cool!

The next time you’re preparing to hit the latest dance club, check your wardrobe. Make sure you choose a comfortable pair of shoes that will allow you to dance for hours on end without causing blisters. Find clothing that looks good, but is comfortable and unrestrictive. Last but not least, choose club clothing that looks hot, but keeps you cool so you won’t overheat on the dance door!

Most larger cities contain numerous dance clubs that vary greatly in size and atmosphere. You’re sure to find one that suits you regardless of your taste in music. However, deciding which ones to visit can become an overwhelming task. A little planning can often go a long way. Start by researching the following areas of your local clubs and you’ll be dancing up a storm in no time!

Location

One of the first elements to consider when you’re deciding on the best dance club is location. If you plan on drinking, you’re probably going to need to take a cab home. Make sure to factor this amount into your budget, especially if you live quite far. If you’re visiting a city for the first time, check with the locals to ensure the area is safe. You don’t want to get all dressed up and find yourself in one of the seedier parts of town.

Price

Let’s face it, spending an entire evening at a dance club can get expensive. Many clubs charge an entrance fee and the price can vary greatly, even in the same area. Some clubs don’t charge cover and others will admit you free if you arrive before a certain time. Make sure you check this beforehand to save yourself some money. Some of the most exclusive clubs in England charge thousands of dollars to enter so cover charge can be a factor! If possible, you should also try to find out the average cost of drinks. A club that charges exorbitant prices for cocktails can drain your wallet in no time.

Dress Code

Many clubs enforce a strict dress code so you check their policy by giving them a call or checking online. Jeans and leather jackets are often prohibited, but each club has their own rules. Some clubs require very formal attire, whereas others may refuse admission to individuals who are wearing clothing they just don’t like. You don’t want to show up in the expensive new dress you just purchased during a club’s leather and lace night!

Atmosphere

Last but not least, you should determine the atmosphere of any dance club. Some clubs have a much more relaxed, inviting atmosphere than others where you’ll experience loud hardcore music and an energetic vibe. Just because a club is very exclusive or expensive doesn’t necessarily mean it will be the most enjoyable. Decide what atmosphere you prefer and choose a club that suits your current mood.

Definition

Trance music is one of the most popular genres of electronic dance music. The style is very hard to define because it varies greatly according to the individual artist. However, it’s considered a melodic free-form style that combines elements of both techno and house music. The style is faster than house music with a typical 130-160 bmp tempo and it’s characterized by a 4-to-floor drum loop which is a consistent, uniform beat in 4/4 time with a kick or bass drum. The name comes from the hypnotic elements meant to send the listener into a trancelike state.

Early 1990s

Trance began in the early 1990s as an offshoot of techno music in German clubs. In 1991, Dag Lerner and Rolf Ellmer formed Dance 2 Trance in Frankfurt. Their song “We Come In Peace” represented the initial definition of trance music. Early trance was very similar to techno music in terms of its rhythmic structure and tempo.

Mid 1990s

In the mid 1990s, trance music dominated dance music. It was edgier and more soothing than house or drum-n-bass. Groups such as BT, Ferry Corsten, Underworld and Paul van Dyk were the main producers and remixers of the genre and they lent the music an emotional feel. DJs such as Sasha, John Digweed, Armin van Buuren and Paul Oakenfold also promoted the genre via the clubs and by selling pre-recorded mixes.

Late 1990s

By the end of the 1990s, the genre had branched into diverse subgenres such as dream trance, Goa trance, acid trance, progressive trance and hard trance. Some artists such as Tiesto and ATB developed a more progressive sound, whereas DJs such as John Digweed preferred a darker sound. The Global Underground series is one of the greatest representations of the diverse aspects of trance music ever produced.

Current

Trance music is played in clubs worldwide and is currently celebrated in numerous festivals. The annual Global Gathering festival held in the UK over an entire weekend features some of the best techno and trance artists worldwide; the event attracts more than 45,000 visitors. However, the majority of trance festivals take place in the Netherlands. These include the Trance Energy, Sensation, Qlimax and Dance Valley festivals.

Many music lovers amass an impressive collection of records and CDs. You probably beat everyone else at the table when you answer music-related questions during a challenging game of Trivial Pursuit. We all have our favorite artists — the ones who make us want to rush out and purchase their latest album the minute it’s released. But what happens when we want to find new artists and expand our current collection?

Fortunately, there are many ways to discover great new music talent. More independent artists are turning to the internet as an easy, inexpensive method of promoting their talent worldwide. With the increased popularity of the internet, you can easily search for new artists online. Just type in your favorite genre of music in a search engine or browse through the vast assortment of music-related websites. Many sites contain biographies and audio samples of emerging new artists. You can often download several tracks from an artist’s new CD to get an idea of their style.

You can also visit large sites such as eMusic, iTunes or Amazon to search for new music. Programs such as Napster, Kazaa and Limewire allow you to download individual songs or entire albums. Even Walmart has jumped on the online music bandwagon with music downloads! The sites will either charge you per song or a monthly fee for unlimited downloads. Paying for each song means you no longer have to waste money on tracks you don’t enjoy. In addition, many sites provide you with a list of recommended artists based on your current selection. This is a great way to introduce yourself to new artists you may not otherwise hear.

If you don’t have access to a computer, you can also discover new artists by reading your local papers or entertainment guides. Most large cities offer a wide assortment of local newspapers that often highlight new artists. Check the listings for your favorite venue and make it a point to attend at least one performance by an artist you don’t know. Many cities also feature emerging talent during various music festivals held throughout the year. Attending these events can really expand your musical horizon and expose you to some fresh new sounds.

If you want to discover some new dance music artists, try looking online. Conduct an internet search or download a music sharing program. You can also consult your local newspapers and entertainment guides for upcoming music festivals and concerts. Read the regular features on new performers and make an effort to attend at least one performance a year by an unfamiliar artist. You may be surprised at the number of new talented artists who are just waiting to be heard.

Music has been popular for centuries, but the styles, technology and manner in which people find music has changed. Music can now be accessed more easily by a wider group of people than ever before.

Downloadable Music

Thanks to the increasing popularity of the internet, dance music is now easier than ever to find online. With just a computer and a modem, you can conduct an internet search and find your favorite artists or song in a few minutes. Many sites offer songs or albums for a set fee. You could spend hours just perusing their extensive list of artists.

Peer To Peer Programs

You might also want to consider downloading a P2P or Peer To Peer program to find new sources of music. After installing a program such as eMule, LimeWire or Gnutella, you can share your vast collection of music with other users. You can search for a specific artist, album title or song and download music from connected users all over the world.

Internet Radio

More and more radio stations now offer online programs. If you search for online stations, you may be very surprised at the wide variety of musical genres and stations available worldwide. You can find your favorite station from Chicago, Brazil or Spain and listen to it from the comfort of your own home. This is a great way to discover new world music that is popular in other countries.

Music Technology

People still listen to dance music on their car or home radio and at clubs, concerts and festivals. However, technology has expanded the availability and portability of music. Music lovers can now download music in a condensed format to their portable MP3 players. Thousands of songs will fit on a device smaller than a stick of gum so you can listen to music while exercising or commuting. Many of the latest cell phones also allow owners to download and listen to music. In fact, you can even watch music videos on some of the newer models! Another current trend is to download your favorite music and use it as a ringtone for your cell phone.

Dance music is popular worldwide, but many countries have become famous for their music clubs, concerts and festivals. You won’t have to travel far to find a city or country that shares your passion for music.

Ibiza

If you love music and are planning a trip to Spain, you have to visit the island of Ibiza. For more than 15 years, this island has become synonymous with dance music. The area attracts new talent and famous DJs such as Sasha, Digweed and Paul Van Dyk. In fact, the Balearic island spawned a new style of music named the “Balearic Beat.”

Every year, thousands of music lovers flock to the island to listen to great music, enjoy its infamous nightlife and soak up some sun. Their famous summer festivals have skyrocketed many electronic dance music DJs to fame.

The island is home to Privilege, the world’s largest club and other famous clubs such as Space which was votes best global club in 2005 and 2006, Pacha, Eden, Es Paradis that holds famous water parties and Amnesia which holds their famous foam parties. The small island contains 15 towns — Ibiza Town and San Antonio are the most popular.

United Kingdom

The United Kingdom has always remained on the forefront of dance music. The country hosts many of the world’s largest dance music festivals including Creamfields, Global Gathering and the Glastonbury Festival. Some of the events feature a huge list of famous DJs and performers.

Famous dance music clubs can be found throughout the United Kingdom. Clubs such as Cream, Barracuda, Fabric and Heaven often attract celebrities from around the globe. Some of the clubs are so exclusive that entrance fees can end up costing you thousands of dollars just to enter.

The most famous club in all of London is the Ministry of Sound with its unparalleled sound system. It’s located in the south part of London far away from most of the other clubs and it has become the world’s most famous electronic music clubs. It officially opened in 1992 and has since opened clubs all over the world. Ministry of Sound has been instrumental in promoting electronic music and has created numerous CD compilations featuring talented artists.
